I have an extensive charts of the Ward and Lacon family that had a brewery in the back streets [Rows] of Gt Yarmouth 1600 and who married into the Lacon family [LORDS OF lACON] OF WEM SHROPSHIRE two sisters moved and lived in this area marrying into the Rev. Beaver's family and their off spring cousins married and created the Ward /Lacon's brewery Yarmouth. There are still averts on the walls in Yarmouth for Lacons Ales It was taken over by Whitbreads. I researched back unbelievably name by name to a Roman Senator Laco who was Procurator of Gaul and summoned to Briton by Claudius to sort out the Iceni Tribe. It is a facinating story as my gt.grt grandmother gave birth and died at sea the child [my gt.grandmother survived but her father the Captain Ward?? and her brother drown in a shipwreck leaving her an orphan. Reading through the information on your site really brought my family tree to life. Like many my tree is based in the working classes of Manchester, no great heroes but great survivors who lived in incredible and desperate times. Your time line brought everything together and is quite shocking when related to what I thought to be recent times of 1800, my earliest member of the tree and to instantly see where their fit into history is very helpful.

Thank you.

Really good resource and information for people like me researching their family trees and background.

Your website is very informative and delightful to read.

My Grandmother was Annie Kay her father was a James Kay. Annie worked as a Cotton Ring Spinner in one of the Bury mills - your information is valuable to me to realise what life was like for my ancestors. My grandmother always kept the tiny wooden clogs she worn in the cotton mill at the end of her bed. I was allowed to look but never touch. But my memories remain.

My Grandfather was George Albert Benjamin, from London, who was in the 17th Battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers in 1915 based at Masham when my grandparents married, then he went to war from 1915 until 1918. I realise that Annie and Kay were very common names in this area.

Thank you for keeping this information free and assisting overseas relatives searching for information.

Researching:

My Grandmother was Annie Kay - married in 1915 aged 20 she lived in 6 Back Hill Street, which I believe was in Summerseat. Although it is no longer called Back Hill Street, but now Hill Street.

Any information on Annie Kay born circa 1896 or her father James Kay. I have been told that James Kay or his family may have originated from Southern Ireland.

I would be delighted to hear from anyone who may have information on my ancestors.

I now live in New Zealand so accessing information or visiting places in person is not so easy.

In 1960 I went to Bury for a 2 week holiday with my Aunt & uncle who lived on the outskirts of the Town & as they were both working, I got bored, so I took myself off into Town & got myself a job in The Bury Ring Mill. It was a big adventure for a lad of 14 just over from Ireland, & the pay......14pounds 10 shillings a week, an absolute fortune to a young buck like me.

We also had an annual trip to Blackpool (day) & the Company gave us all 10 shilling's to spend. I stayed in the Ring Mill for 4 Months till I had strict instructions from my Parents to get myself back home pronto, but I have such great memories of my time in Bury.

Now at the ripe old age of 63 & having gone to Bury while visiting friends in Manchester some Months ago I was totally lost in trying to find the Mill, perhaps it's pulled down or turned into apartments. I hope to be back in the coming weeks & will have another attempt at finding it. If not, I still have memories.

Dear Peter and Family:

Hello. My name is Cathy Harding (nee Gotro) and I live on Vancouver Island, Canada. I am a Kindergarten teacher. My husband, Reg, is a legal land surveyor. Our son, Mark, is a teacher now as well in Vancouver, Canada.

It was such a pleasure visiting your site. You have done such a wonderful amount of work. I enjoyed looking at all of the various names and branches of your family. What brought me here in the first place was some research I was doing on my mother's side of the family--my grandmother. My mom's auntie Sarah (Davies) who immigrated to Canada from Farnworth, Lancashire in the early 1900s settled in Guelph, Ontario. My great aunt Sarah (Davies) married William Cater, also from England originally. I found my great aunt and uncle's marriage certificate from Guelph dated 1919 and William's mother's name was listed as Sarah Warner (maiden name). Then, I found Sarah's (Warner) death certificate where it listed Sarah's parents names as Thomas Warner and Sarah Warner. So, then I took a little online trip to Alvechurch, where Sarah was born and my goodness what a long line of family members. That is where I found the Ward family tree. I don't know if the line is the same. It looks like it is. But, anyway, it has been a wonderful journey for me. It would be really wonderful to hear from you. I have a copy of Sarah (Warner - born 1850 - Alvechurch, UK - and died in 1926 in Guelph, Ontario death certificate. What I would really enjoy seeing are some family photos of Sarah and Thomas, along with their daughter Sarah and her husband Alfred William Cater and their children. I believe that Sarah's husband, Alfred passed away before Sarah and family immigrated to Canada. It looks like Sarah came alone. My mom (87 now) tells me such nice stories about her aunt Sarah and Uncle Bill. She was born in 1922, so Sarah (Warner), mom's great auntie would have passed away just shortly after her birth, so she has no memories of her.

Researching:

Any pictures or additional information about Sarah Warner and family would be wonderful - England and Canada.

Thank you so much.

My granddad served with the 8th armoured as a lorry driver during ww2.

We all know what a terrible war it was (like any war isn't terrible) and some of the sites our grandparents or parents must of seen.

Well my grandfather was very disturbed by it as he would never talk about the war or even be in the same room if a war film was on. Sadly its been ten years since he passed away and the hole family never found out what he went through. So it pleases and makes me proud to here of families like yours who know what happened and tell all about it with great pride. I can now and will always be proud of my grandfather for all of his life but more so for what he went through like so many others for our way of life.

I hope you take great pride and honour in your families history and involvement in the war as I do of every one involved and just hope and pray this world never has to see anything like that again.

I wish you all the best for the future. Yours gratefully Shaun Downey.

P.S. my grandfathers name was HENRY JOE MOFFAT from London

It has been a long time that I have been on your great site before, and I will return again and again..

My Ward Family from Liverpool England arrived in the USA in 1848 with their children John Ward who was around 8yrs. old and brother Joseph who was a year or two older when they arrived from Liverpool and possibly a sister or another brother .. Settled in Sandusky, Ohio. My great great grandmother Ward's maiden name was Margaret Bossfield. She was also from England Liverpool?

On my mother's side I have a Great Great Grandfather who came from Westmoreland, England around 1830 to the USA. He settled in West Haven Grant County, Wisconsin, His name was John Longmire..

I hope to find my English relatives ..
