The amount of effort you have obviously put in and the overall quality of the site add so much to the enjoyment.

Thanks!

I picked up your website from a random look at Barwood House, where my maternal grandparents Robert and Agnes Scholes lived from 1938 or 39 to 1947 followed by my uncle and aunt Henry and Helen Scholes to 1951. They acted as agents for the Grant Lawson estate who owned the house and a lot of Ramsbottom at that time. I spent much of my school holidays at Barwood and have a very soft spot for the house and Ramsbottom. We seem to have somewhat similar backgrounds in that my father's family are from Birmingham and my mother's family are from Bury. I currently live between Birmingham and Coventry and am researching my father's family history in the Birmingham area to which my great great grandfather moved from South Derbyshire in the 1830's

Both gravitated to Salford and Hulme at te latter end of the 19th century working in the mills and iron foundry industries. also some worked on the canals from Wolverhampton through to Runcorn and Manchester. If anyone recognises the names and details I would love to hear from you.

My mom grew up in London in the 1800`s. I took this info from her diary. She worked in a Match house, It was dirty. Many kids worked. There were a hoard of kids in rags and sometimes just shirts and a piece of cloth over there private parts kinda resembling a skirt. She wrote that at each end of the week she got five pennies. Sadly she died from the scarlet fever many years ago.

I am 99. Yesterday was my birthday!

Hi, I was looking through a copy of my Ward family tree and got curious and wanted to look at some Ward websites. I live in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

I was born Feb,6,1972.

Researching:

The first entry in our Ward family tree is Aubrey De Vere, the 10th Earl of Oxford. That is if my Aunt's research is right. She had him down as the 1st Earl, but according to the Vere.com website is not the correct order as the Aubrey De Vere in our family lineage is dated as 1400, which makes him the 10th Earl.

Hi there, Just stumbled across your site whilst researching the Lomax family. I reside in Australia and my branch were located in Footscray, Victoria.

I notice some names that link into your tree so I look forward to returning and having a more comprehensive look around your site. I am relatively new to genealogy but very much appreciate coming across sites like yours where information is so generously shared. I am related through John Lomax born 1843 in Woolton Lancashire. He married Mary Ann Pickett and my line comes down through their son William John Lomax born 1870 in Footscray.

I was wanting to clarify a connection with my tree and wondered if your William Lomax was married to a Mary Rigby? Hoping you can let me know if this is the right maiden name and then I will know whether our trees definitely link in.

Cheers for now. Erika Gray.

I am now researching Richmal Crompton's [born in Bury] family as I remember?! my Grandma telling us she was a distant? cousin. The Cromptons were in the pharmacy business in Bury and lived in Fleet St in 1841-51 - when did it become a further part of The Rock? and where is it - can't recognise it from your photos. They lived in Albion Place in 1881 - remember the name but can't place the location?

Do you remember reading the "Just William" books?

Benjamin WYKE alias WYKES, sentenced to 7 years transportation for stealing a truss from the Manchester stage coach, have confirmation of his crime from the Leicestershire/Nottingham newspaper. Arrived aboard the GANGES on June 2, 1797 at Port Jackson, there seems to be some confusion, there doesn't appear to be any records for him in the New South Wales Records Office although he is on the passenger lists that I have searched on the internet. He was pardoned by Governor Hunter in 1810 and apparently went back to England, this information is from a book in the library, he died in Sydney in 1816 aged 60. My Dad has a copy of his death certificate that says he came out on the ship INDIAN, how and where would I look to find out which scenario is true.
