WELCOME TO THE GENEALOGY SECTION OF OUR WEBSITE

Here you will be able to see how we are getting on in our research for our family ancestors.

I began to research our family ancestors a few years ago, as due to bad health problems I had to take early retirement, after gathering so much information about our ancestors I decided to research a little into the social history side, this gave us a good picture as to how life was, including the working and living conditions.

All of a sudden it was growing into a lovely picture of the days gone by. It was at this time that I decided to try and share the information that I had gathered with other people, this was in the hope that someone might be able to connect into our family tree, it was at this time that I began making our 'Ward Family Website', my first attempts were fairly basic, but we got some good response from it, and so I tried to better the site, and here we are today.

We have listed the Surnames that we are researching, together with the dates and area's that they came from.

I do hope that you find the pages of our site interesting, and I would love to here from you, especially if you find that we have some family connection.

Well that's enough of my chatting, please enjoy your visit, and we wish you all well in your own research.

Why not expand your family tree? with the help of these great resources.

I myself have used these free trials in the past, and have managed to add many extra names to our family tree, I must admit, that I have even subscribed for a time, as there is so much data to search.

Here is a brief outline

of what we have to offer you in our genealogy section.

New To Genealogy

This is a great new section if you have just started on your search for your family tree. Many interesting and helpful notes, and also some good links to places on the web that will be useful in your research.

This section now has a new layout, as I have added much more content.

Surnames

Here you can view a list of the Surnames that we are researching together with the Years and Area's.

Genealogy Page One

This page gives you details of our research into our WARD family name, plus our ancestors on my line of the family. As well as showing quite a few old photo's of interest. Also contains some good links.

Genealogy Page Two

Similar set out as Page One, but showing my wife's genealogy line, some good photo's, and a few great links to some of our pages that give you many LEYLAND family name Baptism's, and Marriages and Deaths.

As well as a lovely small story, which was written by my wife's late mother entitled 'My Life as a child in the village of Summerseat' well worth a visit.

Our Family Tree

Here you can view our Family Tree, which also gives you many noted events, as well as notes on individuals and families.

Our Family Roots

This is a great page that will give you a little bit of history into some of the Surnames in our family, and a great insight into the occupations that many of our ancestors were in, such as - Coal Mining, Weaving & Spinning (Cotton & Silk), Watch Making and Glass Making. Together with a write up on the Coventry Workhouse, including the workhouse routine. As well as a list of wages from 1830, and great old pictures relating to this page.

Monumental Inscriptions

Here we have listed a few Monumental Inscriptions that we have copied from the headstones of many of our relatives, as well as from those with the same surname’s that we are researching, but as yet have not linked to our ancestors, there may be some here that will be of interest to you in your own research.

Here you can find the meaning of many genealogy terms from - Abeyance to Yeoman. Includes many medical conditions.

Our Photo Gallery of Headstones

Here we have made up a photo gallery of headstones. I do plan to expand this area of our site, and we will be adding more photo's over the coming months.

A History of Diseases and Illnesses through the years in the UK

This page gives you a chart showing the history of Illnesses and Diseases  in the UK, we cover from the year 1350 right through to 1950. Of course this may not detail the Full History, but we have added all those that we have researched.

Some Meanings of Disease Terms

Here we have listed many Disease and Illness terms, together with the basic interpretation, you may find these on your ancestors death certificates, and not understand the meaning, we do hope that you find this page useful.

NOTICE

New charges for people ordering birth, marriage and death certificates were announced

by Registrar General James Hall.
From Tuesday 6 April 2010 the eight separate fees currently charged by the General Register Office (GRO) for ordering a certificate will be reduced to two - one for standard orders and one for the priority service.

The cost of ordering certificates online with a GRO reference number, using the standard service, will rise from £7.00 to £9.25. A number of other charges, however, will fall to this new standard fee, including those for certificates where customers do not know the reference number.

Three of the four priority overnight service charges will also fall to a flat fee of £23.40.

There are also going to be increases in the charges made at our local Register Offices, the cost of a Certificate issued by the Superintendent Registrar will be £9.00.

This new web site is the place where you can list the Wills of your ancestors, the site contains a collection of Old England Wills. This site is going to grow into a great archive of many will transcriptions in the coming months.

Please make a visit to the following Web Site

This is a Free site that lists Birth, Marriage & Death Certificates  that

people have bought in error, I myself have done this in the past, so

somebody suggested to me about how good it would be to have a site

where people could list these certificates, together with contact details.

I have designed the site and do hope that many of you will make use of it

and hopefully benefit from it. We also list other useful documents, and have over 390 Will Transcriptions listed, as well as over 2000 Certificates.
